We left Fresno early as we had a fair amount of driving to do either side of Yosemite, but we were prepared for a late arrival at our next destination.
Having done the Sequoia Park yesterday and it’s astonishing trees, we asked the Ranger at the Yosemite park entrance for some advice on what to see. He replied, “If you’ve seen them, you won’t need to see ours.”
Yosemite National Park
We headed straight for Glacier Point, which is another amazing geological landscape. As you approach you suddenly see this massive half dome of rock with a single sheer cliff face, rise out of the surrounding mountain. It is very impressive.
We took a lot of pictures of the Glacier Point area including several waterfalls. The ranger told us not to expect anything too spectacular as the falls are fed by snow and there hasn’t been any since winter. This is the same every year. The waterfalls, were more like water trickles, but still very impressive.
Tip 45 – If you want to see waterfalls, don’t come at the end of the summer.
After Glacier Point is the Yosemite Valley. To do this area justice would likely need several days of camping and hiking but you can still experience the stunning scenery with a shorter visit. Here are some pictures of a huge waterfall we came across while heading for Yosemite Valley.
As you can see there isn’t much water on the falls but after a 20 minute scramble, I made it to the bottom of the falls. There was a large pool of clear green water and swimming round were lots of fish. I have no idea if they had fallen off the falls or if they live there, butit was fascinating.
