Mixed day

Pai Chiang Khong

Spent a lot of time on the bus today. Picked up at 10am and travelled to Chiang Khong just on the border with Laos at 4.30pm. En route we stopped at the white temple in Chiang Rai.

Tomorrow we go across the border to Laos and on to the slow boat.

I’ve been travelling with a couple of fellow Brits – Jenna & Adam for the last few days. Jenna has been feeling unwell and took a turn for the worse tonight so has been admitted to hospital with fever, sickness etc. Really hoping it’s nothing serious. Looks like they won’t be on the boat tomorrow and I’ll be doing some unplanned solo travelling for a bit.

Thai healthcare is very good, so in a way it’s lucky she cane down with this here rather than Laos, which is much less developed than Thailand.

Pai

Very quick update. I’ve been in Pai since yesterday. It’s a small place just north of Chiang Mai. Very cool here & spend from 8am – 8pm white water rafting. Leaving tomorrow for 1 more day in Chaing Mai before taking the slow boat to Laos in the morning. It takes 3 days and feeling very excited about a new country 🙂

Chiang Mai II

I’m still in Chiang Mai and have spent the last couple of days enjoying the amazing Loi krathong festival.

The pictures are all on my camera, and I can’t get them on to the blog at the moment, but will do as soon as I get they chance.

I nicked this pic from google to show what it was like at the uni & until I can upload my own

2 day trek

Been in the jungle on a trek for the last couple if days. Don’t have many pictures but had a great time. We walked for a couple of hours yesterday, then rode an elephant. After that some food and a party around the camp fire in the jungle.

Today we washed the elephants, went white water Water rafting then swimming in a waterfall. Was a really good couple of days, including a night in a jungle hut. There was a real mixture of people as well, which made things interesting.

Heading North

After some deliberation I’ve decided to make the epic journey north to Chiang Mai.

I’ll be catching the ferry from Ko Tao at 2pm tomorrow and arriving in Bangkok at 5am. From there it’s an epic 12 hour bus journey north.

So lots of R&R today in preparation. I’ll mainly be in this position.

Beach huts

After a couple of nights in a very nice & well set up beach hut, we decided to move to a quieter part of the Island and a place that had a nice secluded beach. We were sold more on the location than the actual accommodation.

The hut itself only had walls half way up to the roof and huge gaps in the floorboards. The bed had what would best be described as a useless mosquito net.

We had a great night in the bar – between us there was a Russian, two Germans, a Canadian, a Fin, a Brazilian & me. Very relaxed and a lot of fun.

The morning was a bit of a different story. I lifted up the toilet seat to find a gecko hiding in the bowl. After that ran off I spotted a lizard about 12 – 15in in the shower! I generally don’t mind lizards, but the size of this one was a bit of a shock at 8am. I’d also been bitten to hell by something, with at least 20 new bite marks everywhere.

After that I decided to move on, so after breakfast and a 30 minute trek along the worlds maddest path I have a room with real walls. It’s very clean & probably the nicest room I’ve stayed in so far.
